SUBWORTH helps you decide whether each subscription is worth keeping. You tap once on the days you use something, and the app shows what one use day actually costs.

Getting started

Add a subscription

Tap + at the top right of the home screen. You need a name, an amount, a billing cycle (monthly or yearly) and the next billing date. The yearly cost appears as soon as you enter the amount.

If the subscription is in a free trial, set the trial end date. You will be reminded before it ends.

Log the days you use it

Tap the button on the subscription's card on the days you use it. It counts days, not launches — tapping twice on the same day does not record twice. Tap again to undo.

You can also fill in past days from the calendar on the subscription's detail screen.

Read the VALUE grade

VALUE runs from A to E and combines how much of the month you actually used the subscription with what one use day costs. The detail screen shows the usage rate and the cost per use day, so you can see why it landed where it did.

Being expensive is not what lowers the grade. A ¥3,000 subscription used most days scores well; a ¥1,590 one used twice a month does not.

Run a review

Open the Review tab and go through your subscriptions one at a time, choosing Keep, Review or Cut. You can swipe left or right instead of tapping. You can start a review whenever you like, as many times as you like, and the result stays available on the Review tab afterwards.

Cancel, and see what you saved

Choosing "Cut" is only a decision — it does not count as savings. Only when you mark a subscription as actually cancelled does the amount join your yearly savings total. If you subscribe again later, the app records that too, and removes it from the savings figure.

FAQ

I'm not getting notifications

  1. Open Settings inside the app and check that reminders are turned on. They are off by default.
  2. Check iOS Settings → SUBWORTH → Notifications is allowed.
  3. Billing reminders arrive 7, 3 and 1 days before the charge, at 9:00 a.m. Free-trial reminders arrive 3 and 1 days before the trial ends. Nothing arrives on the day itself if that time has already passed.
  4. Cancelled subscriptions do not send reminders.

Tapping twice on the same day does nothing

That is intended. The app measures how many days you used something, so a second tap on the same day would not mean anything. Tap once more to remove the day.

Amounts are shown in yen

The app is currently built around Japanese yen and does not convert currencies. Entering the number your provider charges you still gives you a correct usage rate and a correct cost-per-use-day comparison between your own subscriptions.

What do I get for free?

Up to 8 subscriptions, with one-tap logging, reviews, VALUE and reminders all included. Free accounts see this month's history and the most recent review.

SUBWORTH Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It removes the limit on subscriptions, shows six months of month-by-month history, and keeps your full review and cancellation history.

I got a new phone — can I move my purchase?

Yes. Signed in with the same Apple ID, open the Pro screen and tap Restore purchase. Note that your recorded data does not transfer, because it is stored only on the device.

Can I back up my data?

Not yet. If you erase or lose the device, the records are lost. Export and iCloud sync are being considered for a future version.

Does the app find my subscriptions automatically?

No, and by design. It never connects to your bank, card or email, and never reads what you do in other apps. You enter what you are paying for, and nothing leaves the device.
